Chicken & Rice
For this main dish you need: chicken thigh steaks, rice and carrots. Just before feeding, add salmon oil and BARF supplement powder. Time needed: about 5 min prep and 35 min cooking. How many grams of each ingredient your dog gets depends on weight, age and activity – the DoggoMeal app works that out.

Important for main dishes: meat, a side and vegetables alone won't cover your dog's needs in the long run. Just before feeding, add an oil and a mineral and vitamin supplement to every portion, following the instructions on the pack. You can check whether the ration as a whole is right in the Food Check.
Method
Step 1: Prepare
- Make sure the chicken thigh is boneless.
- If there are still any bones or harder bits in there, remove them first, or at the very latest take them all out before portioning.
Step 2: Prepare the rice & carrots
- Briefly rinse the rice in a sieve until the water is no longer quite so cloudy.
- Thinly peel the carrots if you like and cut them into the size of pieces your dog likes best.
- For small dogs or dogs that gulp their food, cut everything smaller so it can be eaten more safely.
Tip: A small piece of raw carrot now and then makes a great snack for many dogs, but always give it in safe-sized pieces.

Step 3: Put everything in the pot
- Put the carrots, basmati rice and chicken into the rice cooker pot.
- Cover with water and stir once.
- If your dog needs to lose weight or is sensitive to fat, you can trim off some of the visible fat.
Tip: A rice cooker is handy here because it switches off automatically. With an ordinary pot, you'll need to keep more of an eye on it.

Step 4: Cook
- Start the rice cooker, or bring to the boil in a pot and then keep cooking gently.
- Check at the end: the chicken must be cooked all the way through and the rice soft.
- Don't cook it with any spices, salt, oil or butter.
Step 5: Portion out
- First weigh out the larger chicken pieces as specified in your recipe.
- As the meat is tender now, you can easily break it up with a spoon.
- Then add the rice and carrot mixture to match.

Step 6: Store
- 3-day option: keep in portions in the fridge.
- 10-day option: freeze in portions.
- Ideally thaw frozen portions in the fridge the day before, not at room temperature.
Step 7: Serve & add supplements
- Put the portion in the bowl.
- Add the BARF/mineral/vitamin complete supplement and the omega-3 oil just before feeding, following the instructions on the pack.
- If the portion comes straight from the fridge, a small splash of hot water takes the chill off.
Tip: As the food is very soft, remember to give a suitable chew as well for dental care.
