Method
Step 1: Make the pumpkin purée
- Wash the pumpkin, remove the seeds and cut it into cubes.
- Put the pumpkin cubes in a pot with a little water and cook until soft (about 12–15 min).
- Drain off the water.
- Mash the pumpkin into a smooth purée with a fork or hand blender.
- Leave the purée to cool completely.
Tip: The smoother the purée, the nicer the cake will look.
Step 2: Make the batter
- Put the cooled pumpkin purée in a mixing bowl.
- Add the eggs and stir them in.
- Add the oat flour and mix to a thick batter.
- If the batter is too stiff, add a little water.
- If it is too runny, add a little more oat flour.
Tip: Let the batter rest for 2–3 min – the oats keep soaking up liquid and thicken it.
Step 3: Bake
- Lightly grease a small tin or line it with baking paper.
- Pour in the batter and smooth the top.
- Bake at about 175°C for 25–35 min.
- Do the skewer test: nothing “doughy” should stick to it.
Tip: Use a small round tin and it instantly looks like a mini celebration cake.
Step 4: Leave to cool (important for a neat look)
- Leave the cake to cool completely.
- Only take it out of the tin once it is really cold (otherwise it will break).
- If you like, put it in the fridge for 20 min to make it extra firm.
Step 5: Topping (to make it look really pretty)
- Put the natural yoghurt in a small bowl.
- If it is very runny, let it drain in a sieve for 5–10 min (this makes it creamier).
- Spread the yoghurt thinly over the cold cake.
- Optional: spoon the yoghurt into a freezer bag, snip off a small corner and pipe “swirls” on top.
Tip: For a clean look, spread a thin layer first, then make little waves with the back of a spoon.
How much of it can your dog have? That depends on their size – you'll find the recommendation with the recipe in the DoggoMeal app. As a rule of thumb, snacks should make up no more than about 10% of the daily ration.
