Beef & Potato

For this main dish you need: diced beef, potatoes and carrots. Just before feeding, add salmon oil and BARF supplement powder. Time needed: about 10 min prep and 30 min cooking. How many grams of each ingredient your dog gets depends on weight, age and activity – the DoggoMeal app works that out.

What goes in the bowl

Ingredients

The app works out how many grams of each ingredient go into your dog's bowl.

  • Diced beef (lean)Amount in the app
  • PotatoesAmount in the app
  • CarrotsAmount in the app

Supplements (just before feeding)

  • Salmon oil (e.g. from Lunderland)Amount in the app
  • BARF supplement powder (e.g. from Napfcheck)Amount in the app

Important for main dishes: meat, a side and vegetables alone won't cover your dog's needs in the long run. Just before feeding, add an oil and a mineral and vitamin supplement to every portion, following the instructions on the pack. You can check whether the ration as a whole is right in the Food Check.

Step by step

Method

  1. Step 1: Prepare

    • Make sure the diced beef is boneless.
    • Ideally cut it into fairly small cubes so it softens faster and is easier to portion out later.

Tip: The smaller you cut the beef, the faster it becomes tender.

  2. Step 2: Prepare the potatoes & carrots

    • Peel the potatoes or wash them very thoroughly, then cut them into bite-sized cubes.
    • Thinly peel the carrots if you like and cut them into suitably small pieces.
    • For small dogs or dogs that gulp their food, cut everything smaller so it can be eaten more safely.

Tip: Always cook potatoes all the way through, and don't use any green patches or sprouts.

  3. Step 3: Put everything in the pot

    • Put the potatoes, carrots and beef into an ordinary saucepan, a steamer or a multicooker.
    • Cover with water and stir once.
  4. Step 4: Cook

    • Bring to the boil once, then let it simmer gently until the beef is tender and cooked right through.
    • By the end, the potatoes should be easy to mash with a fork.
    • Don't cook it with any spices, salt, oil or butter.
  5. Step 5: Portion out

    • First weigh out the beef as specified in your recipe.
    • Then add the potatoes and carrots to match.
    • If needed, you can cut larger pieces of meat a little smaller now.
  6. Step 6: Store

    • 3-day option: keep in portions in the fridge.
    • 10-day option: freeze in portions.
    • Thaw frozen portions slowly in the fridge.
  7. Step 7: Serve & add supplements

    • Put the portion in the bowl.
    • Add the salmon oil and the BARF/mineral/vitamin complete supplement just before feeding, following the instructions on the pack.
    • If the portion comes straight from the fridge, a small splash of hot water helps.

Tip: Potato recipes turn out especially even when the potatoes and carrots are cut to a similar size.
